This editorial maternity session in Seaside, Florida is what dreams are made of.
If there is one thing I vow to do more of this year its maternity and family sessions. I jumped at the opportunity to capture this sweet time in Nikki’s life. Earlier this year I was back home in Florida and lived my actual best life by the beach with my husband and girls. Anytime I have the chance to go back home and work a bit while I’m there just fills my cup up. Nikki was due in just a few weeks and was GLOWING. It’s unfair how gorgeous she is while growing a human. When I was pregnant with my girls I never took maternity photos because I though they were cheesy. Anything that is more creative and editorial I would have done in a heartbeat.
I drove out to Seaside, Florida— the cutest little beach town nestled in between Destin and 30A. I met Nikki at her place, set up a studio essentially in her living room, opened up the blinds and windows and shot until the sun went down. When I was talking to Nikki about what she envisioned for her shoot she wanted an editorial maternity session; something very Gigi Hadid and I was all over that!! She was comfortable in her own skin and literally was up for anything. Editorial maternity sessions are my jam, sign me up for more of them anytime. We had such a fun time. It was effortless, she trusted me completely, I brought a few outfit changes and within an hour or so we had so many beautiful photos. This editorial maternity session is hands down one of my favorite shoots of all time.
My good friend Josie from Good Seed Floral made this dried flower bandeau for her to wear and it turned out to be incredible. This wasn’t the first time I have been able to photograph someone wearing a floral bandeau and I really hope it isn’t the last. She wore just that first for a few photos and then we ended the shoot in this sleek all black outfit with the cutest hat. I am telling you, it was a dream shoot.
Baby Thompson was born a few weeks later and I can’t help but think how special it will be for her to look back on these photos and see how stunning her mom was/ is!!! I am always so mind blown when I think about all the things Womens bodies go though from pregnancy, to birth and everything after. Its incredible and such a beautiful time. (I obviously loved being pregnant and know thats not the case for everyone.) but ladies— I am all for showcasing this time in your life with some classy, editorial photos.
